Munshi supports Urdu and English fully, including right-to-left layout and Urdu statements, PDFs and reminders. Easy Khata names Urdu on its Play listing. For several other apps we could not confirm Urdu from the public pages we opened, so the safest approach is to test any app’s Urdu yourself. We make Munshi, so we are not a neutral reviewer. This guide tells you what we could and could not confirm, and how to check in five minutes.
Why Urdu support is a deciding factor
Many shopkeepers, helpers and customers think and read in Urdu. A khata app that works only in English makes you translate in your head at the counter, and an English statement can be hard for a customer to trust. For freelancers and shop owners who used English apps reluctantly, a proper Urdu app is the difference between using it every day and abandoning it.
What public pages said about Urdu
Urdu support as stated on public pages, October 2026
| App | What the public pages said about languages | What to test yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Munshi | Whole app in Urdu or English, right to left. Statements, PDFs and reminders follow the app language | Make an Urdu statement and open it on another phone |
| Easy Khata | English, Urdu and Sindhi, as named on its Play listing | Check Urdu statements and reminders, not just menus |
| DigiKhata | Urdu statements were not confirmed on the pages we opened | Look for Urdu in the app and in a shared PDF |
| Khatabook | English, Hindi and 10+ regional languages on the listing; Urdu was not named | Check whether Urdu is offered at all |
| Rupin | Urdu interface was not confirmed by us | Check the language setting after installing |
These come only from public store pages and websites. Apps change, and a page that does not mention Urdu does not prove an app lacks it. That is why the test below matters more than any table, including ours. For deeper comparisons see Munshi vs Easy Khata, Munshi vs DigiKhata, Munshi vs Khatabook and Munshi vs Rupin.
Urdu in the menus vs Urdu where it matters
Three places decide whether Urdu is real:
- The screens. Menus, buttons and balances read right to left, not as English with a few Urdu words.
- Your data. You can type customer names in Urdu script, and they display correctly.
- What customers see. Statements, PDFs and WhatsApp reminders are in Urdu, with letters joined correctly and amounts reading the right way.
A five-minute test for any app
- Switch the language to Urdu and look at three screens.
- Add a customer whose name is in Urdu script.
- Record an entry with an Urdu note.
- Share a statement as a PDF to yourself and open it on another phone.
- Send a reminder and read the message that opens in WhatsApp.
If any step falls back to English, you have found the limit. Munshi draws Urdu text carefully in PDFs so letters join properly and brackets and amounts sit the right way round, even beside “Rs 3,500”.
How Munshi handles Urdu
- Language switch: Settings → Language, Urdu or English, any time.
- Statements and reports follow the language set at the moment you export. Make an Urdu one for a customer, and an English one for your accountant. See how to create a customer statement in Urdu.
- Reminders open in WhatsApp in the app’s language; you press Send.
- Offline: it works without internet and syncs later.
Urdu or English: which should you use?
Choose by who reads it. Use Urdu for yourself, staff and customers who prefer it. Keep English exports for banks, accountants and suppliers. Many shops use both, switching language only when they export. A good bilingual app does not make you pick one forever.

What “Urdu support” can include
When someone says an app supports Urdu, they may mean very different things. It helps to separate the layers:
- Menus and buttons in Urdu. The most visible layer.
- Right-to-left layout. The whole screen mirrored, not just the text.
- Urdu input. You can type names and notes in Urdu script, and they display correctly.
- Urdu in documents. Statements and reports with joined letters and correct number order.
- Urdu messages. Reminders and messages the app generates.
- Urdu search and sorting. Finding a customer by typing in Urdu.
An app may do some layers well and others poorly. For a shopkeeper, the document and message layers matter most, because customers see them.
Common problems in Urdu apps
If you have used apps that claim to support Urdu, you may recognise these issues: letters that do not join properly; brackets and numbers that appear on the wrong side; mixed Urdu and English lines that scramble; PDFs that show boxes because a font is missing; and amounts that read backwards. These are not cosmetic: a statement a customer cannot read does not help you collect. That is why the five-minute test above ends with opening the file on another phone, because it is where problems show.
What we do differently in Munshi, and why
PDF libraries often cannot shape Urdu correctly on their own, so Munshi draws Urdu text itself, at high resolution, so that letters join and brackets and numbers sit properly, even when Urdu words appear next to “Rs 3,500”. The statement follows the app’s language at the moment you export, so you control which language each recipient receives. The result is a PDF that looks the same on every phone. We still recommend you test it yourself, and we welcome reports of anything that looks wrong, through Report a problem in Settings → Help.
Language and staff
Many shops have staff who read Urdu more comfortably than English. In those shops, an English-only app creates mistakes: a wrong button, a misread balance. A bilingual app lets each person use the language they read best, on their own phone if needed, while the owner exports reports in whichever language suits the audience. Consider this when you evaluate options, not only your own preference.
If you already use another app
If you have records in another app and want Urdu, check whether it can export your customers as Excel or CSV. If it can, Munshi can import them with a name column and a balance column, show you a preview and offer Undo; see how to import customers into Munshi. Try the Urdu test on both apps with the same five customers, and decide with evidence. For the broader comparison, read best khata app in Pakistan: six apps compared.
