To manage Ramzan and Eid udhaar safely, decide who gets credit and how much before the season, agree a specific due date with each customer, record every sale as it happens, and collect in a steady weekly routine once the rush is over. These weeks are the busiest of the year, and they are also when credit grows fastest and records get messiest. Plan ahead and the season can improve your cash flow instead of straining it.
Why seasonal credit is different
In Ramzan and before Eid, customers buy more, buy in larger amounts and often ask for time to pay. Shopkeepers say yes, because the customers are regulars and sales are strong. But there are three risks:
- Volume. Many people owe you at once, so the total can become large quickly.
- Memory. You are busy, entries get skipped, and amounts get remembered wrongly.
- Pressure on your own cash. You must buy stock before the rush, so unpaid udhaar hurts more than usual.
Before the season: set the rules
- Decide who gets credit. Prefer regular customers and people others can vouch for.
- Set a limit for each. “Up to Rs 15,000 until after Eid” is clearer than “whatever you need”.
- Settle old balances first. Ask customers with older udhaar to clear it before adding more.
- Prepare your tools. Make sure the app is updated and your backup is current. See how to back up business records on Google Drive.
During the rush: record every sale
The one habit that matters most is recording at the counter. In Munshi, a credit sale is one tap on You gave and an amount. Add a short note, such as “Eid clothes” or the bill number. It works offline, so a weak signal or power cut does not matter. Entries recorded at the moment are the ones nobody argues about.
Agree a date the customer can plan around
An open-ended “I will pay later” is the start of a long chase. Ask for a date linked to something real: salary day, a date shortly after Eid, or a known payment the customer is expecting. Say it out loud and record it.
If many customers will pay around the same date, do not set it one by one. In Reminders, press and hold a customer, tick the others, then choose Set collection date. You can undo it right after.
After the season: collect calmly
- Send a statement to customers with large balances. It shows each entry with its date, which ends most memory disputes. See how to create a customer statement in Urdu.
- Remind the day before the agreed date, with the exact amount and a thank you. Wording is in polite payment reminder messages.
- Work through the list weekly, oldest first.
- Pause new credit for anyone with an overdue balance until it is settled.
A simple seasonal checklist
- Old balances cleared or agreed
- Credit limits set for regular customers
- App updated and backed up
- Every credit sale recorded at the counter with a note
- A date agreed and recorded for each large balance
- A weekly collection day planned for after the season
