For a shop in Pakistan whose main job is udhaar in Urdu, Munshi is the closer fit. Khatabook is a large India ledger and billing app, and its extra tools are GST bills, UPI and loans, not a Pakistani cash book. We make Munshi. Khatabook’s facts below are from its Play listing, its homepage and one help page, all opened in October 2026.

What Khatabook’s pages say
The Play title is Khatabook Credit Account Book, package com.vaibhavkalpe.android.khatabook. The developer is ADJ UTILITY APPS PRIVATE LIMITED, with an address in Chennai and the support email feedback@khatabook.com. The page says the app contains ads. It was updated on 16 October 2026. The heading showed 4.4 stars from 592K reviews. The ratings block showed 4.4 stars from 588K reviews. The listing’s own text says “5+ crore users”. We did not audit that user count. Treat it as the company’s claim.
The listing describes debit and credit, SMS and WhatsApp reminders, GST and non-GST invoices, inventory with low-stock alerts, and collection by UPI, cards, wallets and a QR code. It describes business loans from ₹10,000 to ₹5,00,000 through named NBFC partners, with interest of 15–24%, processing fees of 0–5%, and an example for a ₹10,000 loan. Languages named are English, Hindi and 10 or more regional languages. Urdu is not in that sentence. The data-safety form says the app may share personal info, financial info and four other types, and that it may collect location, personal info and seven other types.
The English homepage at khatabook.com says the product is 100% free, mentions multiple businesses, and shows “5 CRORE+ registered businesses” and 12 supported languages. A help article titled “How do I buy a plan?” tells you to tap SMS Reminder, then Recharge, then Buy Now. That article does not print a price. So “free” on the homepage and “buy an SMS plan” in the help centre are both on Khatabook’s own site. Check the recharge screen in the app for the current amount.
What that means in Pakistan
UPI and GST invoices are India payment and tax tools. A Lahore kiryana does not file Indian GST, and customers do not pay that shop with UPI. JazzCash, Easypaisa and Raast are not named on the Khatabook listing we read. We are not saying those rails are impossible inside the app. We are saying the pages we opened did not offer them. If a feature is the reason you would switch, confirm it on a Pakistani phone before you move the khata.
Munshi, from DIGIT, is the other way round. It is made for the credit register Pakistani shops already keep. You record customer and supplier udhaar, a daily cash book, bank accounts and expenses. The language can be English or Urdu, and statements follow that choice, including right-to-left Urdu. It does not collect UPI, it does not write a GST invoice, and it does not manage stock or barcodes. Reminders open WhatsApp for you to send. The download is free, paid for by a few small ads that stay out of the entry screen, the sign-in screen, the lock screen and the reminder itself. Up to five businesses can live on one account. There is no loan button, and we are not a lender.
Who should still try Khatabook
Try Khatabook if you operate in India, or if you sell into India and you truly need GST bills, UPI and a stock list in one app. The review count is large because the market is large. A large review count does not translate the app into Urdu or into a Pakistani tax invoice. Try Munshi if your customers read Urdu, if you want the reminder to leave only when you press Send, and if stock and GST are not your problem this year.
Put one week of real credit into whichever app you keep. The routine is in how to keep an udhaar ledger. For a paper comparison, see Munshi vs bahi khata.

How to test any khata app against your own shop
Whichever apps you compare, the most reliable result comes from your own counter. Install each app, add five real customers with real balances, record three entries with airplane mode on, and send a reminder and a statement to your own phone. Then ask: Which one felt natural? Which one would a helper learn quickly? Which one made me trust the numbers? Make the decision on that, not on a feature list.
