What’s new in Munshi 1.0.12 to 1.0.16: import, restore, Personal khata, quicker sign-in and a Correct button

Checked against the app. Steps and screen names match Munshi 1.0.16. Written for businesses in Pakistan. Last reviewed 17 October 2026.

Between 16 and 25 October 2026 Munshi went from 1.0.12 to 1.0.16. The headline changes are customer import, backup restore, a Personal khata, passkey and PIN sign-in, and a Correct button for balances that drift. This is a plain-words tour of each release, with a link to the guide that covers it. The complete, dated list is always on the changelog.

1.0.12 (16 October): bring your records in

  • Import your customers. Load customers and balances from an Excel or CSV file, see everything before it is added, and Undo if needed. Guide: how to import customers into Munshi.
  • Restore a backup. Open a backup from Google Drive or your phone as a new business; your current records stay as they are. Guide: how to restore a Munshi backup.
  • Settings, neatly grouped by what you want to do, with Report a problem and Rate Munshi under Help.
  • Fewer interruptions. Full-screen ads are limited and never show while you are adding entries quickly.

1.0.13 (21 October): sign in faster

  • Sign in without waiting for a code. Use a passkey (fingerprint, Face ID or screen lock) or a 6-digit PIN you choose. After reinstalling, Munshi can sign you back in by itself. The SMS code is still there. Guide: sign in without an SMS code.
  • Find phone numbers in your contacts for customers who do not have one. You tick the right ones, and your contacts never leave the phone.
  • Clearer Google Drive messages when Drive backup cannot connect because Google Play services is out of date.

1.0.14 (22 October): a Personal khata and simpler names

  • Personal khata. Keep money you lend or borrow yourself apart from your business. Tap your business name on Home, then Add Personal. Guide: Personal khata.
  • Easy sign-in, set up once. After signing in, choose your fingerprint or face, or a 6-digit PIN, so next time no SMS code is needed.
  • “Ledger” is now “Accounts”, and switching between businesses opens the right Home straight away.
  • Lighter and more reliable on budget phones, with old temporary files cleared.

1.0.15 (24 October): balances you can trust

  • Wrong balance? Fix it in one tap. If a balance does not match its entries, Munshi tells you on the account and on Home, and Correct fixes it. Nothing is deleted. Guide: the Correct button.
  • A faster start. One welcome screen instead of five. Home shows what to do first, you can import a whole list, and Munshi can remind you tomorrow if you are busy now.
  • Fewer mistakes, fewer crashes. Tapping Restore or Save twice can no longer count an entry twice, and switching business no longer closes the app after an ad.

1.0.16 (25 October): import where you want it

  • Import into the right business. Importing now asks whether the customers go into one of your businesses or a new one. A PDF report fills in the business name for you, Urdu names stay exactly as written, and Undo removes everything the import added.
  • Personal comes first. In your list of businesses, Personal shows first, then a line, then your businesses.

How to get these updates

On Android, Munshi offers a new version inside the app when one is ready; on iPhone it takes you to the App Store. You can also update from Google Play or the App Store at any time. After updating, the in-app What’s new sheet shows the same points as this page.

Tell us what to improve next

Use Report a problem in Settings → Help to mark an issue on a screenshot and send it to us, or write to us from the Support page. Munshi is a product of DIGIT, and the changes above are aimed at everyday friction at the counter.

The thread running through these five releases

Read together, the changes tell a simple story. The first half, import and restore, is about getting your records in without retyping, so that a shop with years of customers in a spreadsheet or a backup file can start in an afternoon. The middle, passkey and PIN sign-in, is about getting back in quickly, which matters most when you change a phone or reinstall the app. The Personal khata is about keeping your own money separate from your business. And the Correct button and the faster start are about trusting what you see: balances that agree with their entries, and a first screen that tells you what to do. Each change aims at the same thing: making one more everyday task at the counter simpler.

Which release matters to which kind of user

  • If you are moving from paper or a spreadsheet: 1.0.12 (import) and 1.0.16 (choose where the import goes) are the ones to read first.
  • If you change phones or reinstall often: 1.0.13 and 1.0.14 (passkey and PIN sign-in).
  • If you lend and borrow personally: 1.0.14 (Personal khata).
  • If you have seen a balance that did not look right: 1.0.15 (Correct).
  • If you want the least interruption: 1.0.12’s limits on full-screen ads, and 1.0.15’s fixes for double counting and crashes.

Little things that are easy to miss

Besides the headlines, these releases carry smaller improvements worth knowing about. Settings are grouped by what you want to do, with Report a problem and Rate Munshi under Help. “Ledger” is now “Accounts”, and switching between businesses opens the right Home straight away. Munshi uses less memory on budget phones and clears old temporary files. Drive backup messages are clearer when Google Play services is out of date. An import report fills in the business name for you, and Urdu names are kept exactly as written. A contacts button helps you find phone numbers for customers who do not have one, and your contacts never leave the phone. None of these is dramatic, but together they make everyday use smoother.

What did not change

Equally important is what stayed the same. Munshi is still free, with a few small ads that never appear while you add an entry, sign in, unlock the app or send a reminder. It still works offline and syncs later. Reminders are still opened in WhatsApp for you to send yourself, and nothing is sent automatically. Your customers’ names, numbers and amounts are still never shared with advertisers. And Urdu and English remain fully supported, including right-to-left statements and PDFs.

How to try the new features safely

New features are best tried on a small scale. For import, start with a test file of five rows and use Undo to see how it works. For restore, remember that it never overwrites your current data. For passkeys and PINs, set up one at a time and test it on the same phone before you rely on it. For Personal khata, add one test person and delete or archive it. And for Correct, only use it after reading the Now and After figures. If anything surprises you, tell us from Settings → Help → Report a problem.

Looking ahead

We keep a short list of what shopkeepers ask for most. We cannot promise dates, and we will not describe features that are not released, but the changelog and the in-app What’s new will always show what has shipped.
